Today, our school family stood bright and bold, wearing red clothing to commemorate the lives of the martyrs who lost their lives as a result of their faith. We joined with other primary schools around the country to acknowledge and stand in awareness of Christians around the world who are still persecuted for their beliefs.
It has been an honour to lead our Parish community in Masses during our Sacramental preparation. We have received the Sacrament of Reconciliation with Father Sean and are ready to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation this weekend.
Y6 have complied their own version of the Litany of the Saints. We will pray this regularly, both during the build up to their Confirmation and for the rest of the year, to ask the saints to watch over us and guide us during our final year at OLOL.
Our Liturgy Leads have led us so eloquently in both pupil-prepared prayer and Celebrations of the Word!
This week we designed our candle holders ready for our Confirmation. We created our design after extensive research about our saints and included symbols and patterns linked to their patronages. We shared our Confirmation projects also, and displayed them in the church.
On Thursday evening, Y6 gathered together for their commitment service. They were joined by their families and sponsors to support them during the preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Our Y6 children took part in a Confirmation Retreat today. They started the day by attending the Service of the Word amongst the parish. They then went on to discuss the Gifts and the Fruits of the Holy Spirit, reflecting particularly on the gifts they felt they needed most in their lives after examining their conscience and their actions.
They paused at midday to be led in the Angelus by our Liturgy Leads before discussing the parts of the service and the symbols associated with the Sacrament of Confirmation.
They ended their retreat day by attending Benediction at church with Deacon Tim.

The Season of Creation
We have researched our new class saint, Saint Thomas Aquinas, and found out lots of information about his early life, works and his patronages. We hope that he will watch over us during the course of this year and help us on this very important part of our faith journey.
We look forward to sharing our faith journey with you this year
