The Jesuit Pupil Profile
at Our Lady of Lourdes
Our Lady of Lourdes supports the development of the whole child through the adoption of the Jesuit Pupil Profile (as directed by the Archdiocese of Birmingham). The Pupil Profile is composed of 8 pairs of virtues that sum up what pupils (and staff) in our Catholic Schools should be living and how they should be learning, in keeping with St Ignatius Loyola’s own vision that we can show…"improvement in living and learning for the greater glory of God and the common good."
The Jesuit Tag Cloud of Virtues is visible in every classroom in OLOL and each half term the children focus on a new pair of virtues. In their classes the children and staff brainstorm what they believe are the actions and words of these virtues and the collective thoughts of our children about what these virtues mean to them can be seen in the documents below.
The Jesuit understanding of education reflects the Church’s vision for all Catholic schools: “There is no separation between time for learning and time for formation.”
It is our hope that we can support the children of OLOL, in partnership with the home and the Parish, to show these qualities in their work and play and to grow in understanding of their faith and themselves through reflection, prayer, discussion, academic work and collective worship.
All children at OLOL have a Merit book that records the times they have clearly demonstrated a virtue or are working towards developing that aspect of themselves. There are rewards associated with the accumulation of merits but more important is the intrinsic spiritual development the children experience as they mature and learn how to be the best that they can be!
At OLOL we thought about ways to make these virtues easier to understand and engaged a company to work with us on designing icons to represent each pair of virtues and to redesign our school entrance to show how we are invested in the development of the whole child. These icons are in every classroom sitting alongside our MIssion.
