Parent Code of Conduct

At Our Lady of Lourdes, we are fortunate to have a supportive group of parents who work with the school in the best interests of their own child and the wider community. Our school is a partnership between the staff, parents, parish and children, and as such this shared vision for the children’s education and spiritual formation is vital and we believe why you have chosen Our Lady of Lourdes as the right learning environment for your child.

As a partnership, our parents will also understand the importance of a positive working relationship to equip children with the necessary skills for adulthood. Staff at Our Lady of Lourdes are passionate about supporting our families in a holistic way and operate policies that support all aspects of learning and wellbeing to that end. We are here to help and are happy to discuss any concerns with you, so that they can be quickly resolved. We always expect that you will raise any concerns in a calm, considered and caring way. Our experience is that this is almost always the case.

Our staff have every right to be treated with respect and courtesy. We will not tolerate any member of staff being subjected to aggressive, intimidating or violent behaviour, which causes them to feel threatened. This particularly relates to physical behaviour, but can also include comments made on social media, aggressive tone in emails, oppressive body language and proximity on site when talking to staff etc. Any instances of aggressive, intimidating or violent behaviour, whether they be physical or through social media, will be reported by staff to the Head Teacher and if necessary the Governors.

We ask all parents (legal guardians) to read and agree to the OLOL Parent Code of Conduct when their child starts school. This is kept on file and represents evidence of an agreement from parents to behave in a manner appropriate for working in this important educational partnership. The agreement also spells out what we will do as staff. This code applies to parents and any immediate family or representatives who may come onto the site to support the child. This document works alongside the OLOL Home School Agreement (an agreement that includes your child).

Recording of Staff

We do not allow parents or visitors to use any form of recording device to audio or video record staff while they are visiting our school. Parents and visitors are encourage to make notes if they wish to remember discussion points in meetings or workshops. In the UK it is generally unlawful to record conversations without the consent of all parties. At OLOL we work with our families in good faith and their is an expectation of honesty, privacy and confidentiality. There should never be any reason that you would feel the need to record the staff. Sharing any recorded material gained at OLOL without consent is not lawful and school will take appropriate action to deal with parents who do not follow this policy, including refusal to admit you to the school site for meetings with staff.
