House Teams at Our Lady of Lourdes
At Our Lady of Lourdes every child from Year R to Year 6 is part of a House Team. The houses are mixed age. Being part of a house team helps develop opportunities for year groups to work together, encourages children to support each other, gives them a strong sense of responsibility and belonging and provides them with a range of additional activities to take part in.
Your child will stay in the same house team for their time at OLOL and as much as possible we ensure that siblings are placed in the same team as their family. Each team has a captain, elected by Year 6 pupils in September. House Teams meet once a half term. Each teacher is also allocated to a house.
We have a merit system, where children earn points or merits individually and these are recorded in the child’s Merit Book. The children are encouraged to reach milestones in their Merit Book and at each level the children are awarded a certificate at our Celebration Assembly:
Children can earn merits for being good learners, excellence in different subject areas, by showing effort and determination, confidence and for great personal achievement. Children can earn merits for demonstrating the Jesuit virtues. Merits are also awarded for working well with others by getting along, working as a team and being organised. Any member of staff can award Merits and they are issued one at a time.
Prefects at Our Lady of Lourdes
We aspire to give our Year 6 children increasing levels of responsibility as they progress, so that they are independent and move a growing maturity as they start their transition to Secondary School. Each year we invite Year 6 to apply for positions as School Prefects. Their letters go to Mrs David for selection. Senior prefects are chosen to manage the group and the group as a whole has a large amount of responsibility in school.
