Altar Serving at Our Lady of Lourdes
We are proud to have a large number of pupils that are Altar Servers for School and Parish Masses. There is a rich history of Altar Service in this Parish and in 2020 Our Lady of Lourdes Church celebrated it's Platinum Anniversary as members of the Guild of St Stephen.
To be an altar server a child has to demonstrate a commitment to their faith – a willingness to serve God in a very practical way and to serve God’s people (the parishioners) through this form of ministry.
We welcome children who have the following attributes to train for altar service
- To want to become an altar server in your heart
- To be proud of your faith and able to stand up confidently in front of other people
- To have regular attendance at Mass and a willingness to serve at Parish Mass as well as school Mass
- To have made your First Holy Communion
- To know all the prayers of the Mass
- To know how to properly genuflect
- To demonstrate good behaviour in school and church
- To show reverence and attentiveness to their tasks
- To be a good team member
- To be on time and dressed correctly
Children in Year 3 – 6 may apply to become an Altar Server (Year 3 must wait until they have made their First Holy Communion).
