Year 5 Catholic LIfe Page 2025/2026

Year 5 joined Father Sean this afternoon to take part in a Benediction Service at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. We learnt about the importance of The Adoration of The Blessed Sacrament. Father Sean then led us in a Decade of the Rosary. The School Choir closed the service by singing Panis Angelicus

After Mass, the children joyfully presented Father Sean with a birthday card to celebrate his 77th birthday. We gathered together as a school and parish community, giving thanks for his kindness, guidance and dedication to us all. It was a special moment to show how much Father Sean means to our school and to share in the joy of his special day.

Pupils led a beautiful prayer and liturgy to mark the end of our unit on Baptism, showing reverence and thoughtfulness in their choices. They selected a hymn, scripture reading and prayers that reminded everyone of the call to follow God faithfully.Their go forth message encouraged all to listen and obey God’s call, just as Jesus obeyed His Father at His baptism.

Children created artwork depicting Jesus’ baptism, reflecting on the importance of unity and shared faith within God’s family. Through their art, they expressed the CST principle solidarity, showing how we are all connected in Christ’s love. Their reflections were eloquent and truthful, revealing an understanding of how baptism calls us to stand together in compassion and truth.

Two pupils led their prayer and liturgy about Our Lady of the Rosary, helping our pupils to take an active role in their faith and deepen their understanding of Mary’s trust in God. We sang together, ‘As I kneel before you’ as their chosen Marian hymn. Reflecting on the Annunciation and writing prayers encourages personal connection and sincere prayer. Such liturgies strengthen our schools community faith and brings everyone closer to God through shared worship and reflection.

One of our pupils has returned from pilgrimage to Assisi, and visited the tombs of St.Francis, St Clare and St Carlo Acutis. This has helped her and family feel closer to God, seeing where these holy people lived and are buried can inspire us all to live kindly, pray more and follow Jesus’ example in our own lives. I know that for her this was an inspirational experience and understand that faith is alive in the world today. This is a memory that she will never forget and will forever be a moment to cherish forever.

We finished our Creation unit this week and we learned how the creation stories as myths teach us deep truths about God as our loving Creator. We were inspired by St. Francis of Assisi’s canticle of Creation and the Beatitudes , which show us how to live in harmony with God’s world. We ended with a class liturgy writing prayers to God thanking him for the beauty and gift of creation.

Today we led our first mass for this academic year, it was to celebrate the feast of the Guardian Angel’s. It was a lovely mass reminding us that God loves each and us so deeply that he gave us a protector and guide. It strengthens our faith by helping us to trust in Gods constant care and presence in our daily journey. Celebrating thus feast encourages us to live with faith, gratitude and responsibility, knowing we are never alone.

Cafod Fast Day reminds us, like St Teresa of Calcutta taught, that every person has dignity and deserves love and care. By choosing to give up something and donate, we stand in solidarity with the poor and live out our call to share what we have. Together, we follow Christ’s example by putting the needs of the most vulnerable first.

Today we wore our own clothes for our class saint feast day, the feast of St.Michael the Archangel who is so important because He is the protector of the church, defending truth against evil and reminding us that God’s justice always prevails. His role as defender connects to our CST principle by upholding the dignity of every human person, especially the vulnerable who need protection. St.Michaels courage inspires us to live in solidarity and to act with integrity, standing up for what is right even when difficult. Celebrating his feast calls us to be eloquent in proclaiming the truth of the gospel and faithful in building a just and loving society.

Today we reflected upon international Peace Day and how it connects to CST principles, especially the dignity of every person, the call of solidarity and the pursuit of the common good. We thought about how peace begins with each of us in the choices we make everyday. Jesus calls us to be peacemakers in our homes, school and community. Bu showing kindness, forgiveness and respect we help build a more peaceful world. As Christians, we are inspired to follow Christ’s example and work for justice and peace everywhere.

During last Summer, staff visited the shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham, an important place of pilgrimage, during the year of jubilee, as pilgrims of hope. We too today reflect on Mary’s feast day and the special role she has in guiding us closer to Jesus. Together we prayed a decade of the rosary, led by the liturgy leads, focusing on the joyful mysteries, especially the Annunciation, when Mary said ‘Yes’ to God. This moment reminds us of the importance of faith, trust and openness to God’s plan in our own lives. As Christians today, we are inspired to live with hope, courage and devotion, following Mary’s example.

We started our week with watching ‘Open for creation’ with Dan and Emily, reflecting upon our beautiful world that God created as a special gift for us and how we now need to be good stewards of his creation.

In our CST assembly, we learned about stewardship and how we are called to care for God’s creation. We heard Pope Leo XIII’s word’s reminding us that all of creation is a gift to be respected and shared. We were then given the task to make a pledge in our house teams the following day to be good stewards of God’s world.

Deacon Tim blessed our prayer area, our Bibles and each of us as we begin this new school year in faith. His blessing reminds us to live out our Catholic faith each day, guided by God’s word and love. In this Jubilee Year of Hope, we journey together as pilgrims of hope, bringing light and joy to our school community.

Our prayer area reflects the liturgical season, reminding us of God’s presence in our daily lives. It celebrates creation and the CST principles with pupils artwork and responses to show their faith, creativity and response to God’s world.

Our class charter is built on the Jesuit virtues, guiding is to be kind, grateful and responsible in all we do. We live out Catholic social Teaching by respecting the dignity of every person and caring for creation. With Jesus at the centre, we strive to grow in faith, hope and love each day.

We have listened very well this morning in Mrs D’s assembly about being ‘Eloquent and Truthful’. They are now writing how they are going to put these virtues into action during the Autumn term by giving themselves good intention targets.

We have been working really hard this week finding out about our class saint, reflecting on our mission statement and our virtues for this half term ‘Eloquent and Truthful’.

We started our first week back with our liturgy leads leading us in prayer where we refelected upon the season of creation. We think about peace with creation and took a moment to think about what signs of peace we see and how we can be grateful for God’s Creation hoping for justice and peace around the world.

Welcome to Year 5’s Catholic Life Page, we are looking forward to sharing our prayer and liturgy with our community...
