Every morning we have been joining Dan and Emily during Lent thinking about how we can be pilgrims of hope during this Lenten season.
Lenten Fundraising: We have been raising money for our chosen charity NSPCC, with a ‘Guess the name of the teddy’, a football hamper, lucky dip and Easter egg hunt. We hope to have raised lots money to help support the many children in need. Hopefully giving hope to those that feel hopeless.
Year 5 learnt so much this morning about the history of St Patrick! Did you know The Holy Mountain of Croagh Patrick was formerly called “The Mountain of Patrick”? 5 members of Year 5 shared their experiences of climbing The Holy Mountain!
Year 5 have presented to the class what actions they have taken since our assembly about one of our CST principles ‘Participation’. We have tried over the past couple of weeks to go out into our community as pilgrims of hope and support and help those in our local community. We understand the importance of these small actions that have a great impact.
This morning, we are raising our voices and hearts to God singing our hymns for our special Ash Wednesday tomorrow. We will be leading the whole school as we begin Lenten journey when we receive the ashes.
Year 5 were led in our CoW reflecting on Sundays gospel, we want to give a good impression to others but we need to be mindful that our actions speak louder than our words. In this gospel Jesus used this example to teach us important lessons about how we need to show actions that show what we are truly like inside our heart. This week how can you show actions that show love for God and others?
Year 5 have come back after half term refreshed and ready to be pilgrims of hope. This morning we were led in our CoW, reflecting on Sundays gospel about how we should treat others linking this to our CST principle ‘Common Good’. We must love all, show kindness to others so this week we think how can we show kindness to others?.
Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes: We celebrated Mass together, shared croissants and hot chocolate and were also led in an assembly to reflect on our lady and her appearances to St Bernadette. We were very lucky to have been able to look at a piece of St Bernadettes clothing that Father Sean has kept in church. This was a truly special moment for us all.
This week we reflected on Luke’s gospel where Peter saw Jesus in a new light, his humility made him fit to be a follower of Jesus and he went to discover his true calling and purpose in life. We linked this to our CST principle Participation, Jesus shows his followers that having faith can enable them to achieve something truly remarkable. We all can follow Jesus , but what is he calling us to do?
The 2025 Jubilee began on Christmas Eve 2024 and will run until the Feast of the Epiphany in 2026. To prepare for this special occasion, pupils from the Birmingham Diocese joined gathered together, alongside Archbishop Bernard Longley, to take part in a Live Launch for the Year of Jubilee. The theme for this Jubilee Year is ‘Pilgrims of Hope’. Please take some time to look at a selection of our fantastic work..
This week our liturgy leads led us in our celebration of the word where we reflected on Sundays gospel The presentation of the Lord. We thought about how Simeon is a great example of someone who placed his hope in God and was blessed by encountering Jesus, the light of the world. We too can be blessed and enlightened when we do the same.
Jubilee Year 2025: We have explored this special year ahead with lots of work to start our journey of forgiveness and Reconciliation in which we invited to to grow in our relationship with God.
We all thought carefully about how we can use our gifts for the greater good and in the service of others...
This half terms virtues:Grateful and Generous, we know that we should be grateful for our gifts, developing them to the full so that we can be generous in our service to others. We listened to Marks gospel about the widows mite and how she gave all that she could showing her generosity towards others. We too think about how we can be generous and grateful...
We were led in our celebration of the word to celebrate the feast of the Epiphany, we listened to Matthews gospel and reflected on how Herod summoned the wise men to see him privately to go and follow the star and bring Jesus to him, but they did not, as they were warned by a angel to not do this. Herod was extremely jealous and angry about the birth of Jesus. The Epiphany was the first time Jesus was recognised as Gods son, this was his first manifestation, the first time someone said out loud that he was the Son of God. The kings came to pay homage to the the King of the Jews. The Holy family became refugees and so we need to be active in our faith and help them around the world. We think about all the refugees and asylum und their world.
We all attended our final Mass in school together with OLOL family before we break up for Christmas. Year 1 led us beautifully in our Mass, as we sang and prayed together.
We all understand the importance of breaking bread together just like Jesus did with his disciples. So Today we shared a special meal as our Year 5 family.
Year 5 did a sponsored festive obstacle course to raise money for Cafod, we hope that the money we raised will help as many people as possible.
We invited our family and friends to join us in our Advent workshop, we prayed together as we prepare for the coming of Jesus Christ. We created our own Advent wreaths and made an ornament for our Christmas trees to remind us of our second week in Advent when we try to be peacemakers like Jesus was.
Our Liturgy leads led us in our celebration of the word for week 2 of Advent where we were thinking about how we can be good peacekeepers like Jesus was. We lit the candle of peace this week and reflected upon the week ahead and what we could do this week to build on last week and being prepared to stay awake and be ready.
Year 5 were joined by Father Sean for the One Life, Let His Glory Shine Advent Retreat and answered the thought provoking question .."Who Shines their Light in your life?"
We joined Dan and Emily everyday this week as begin our Advent journey, singing and praying together.
Our Liturgy leads led us in the first week of Advent celebration of the word, we were reminded to stay awake and be ready for the coming of Jesus. We thought about how we could offer hope to others and what acts of kindness we can give to others during this time of preparation.
Advent is the first season in the Liturgical year, it started on Sunday 1st December and we have changed our cloth on our prayer table to Purple, and displayed our Advent wreath.
Year 5 went to church to pray for all the persecuted Christians around the world. One of the liturgy leads led us in prayer.
Human Dignity feedback assembly: we shared how we show dignity to others just like Jesus taught us.
We shared what we could do this during this week.
We shared what actions we had demonstrated this week.
Our Liturgy leads led us in our celebration of the word on the 33rd Sunday during Ordinary time. We discussed the importance of perseverance and how we could show resilience in school and at home. We listened to Marks gospel and reflected upon the words.
As a tribute to those who have fought in conflict, the whole school contributed in making miniature poppies. We then gathered all the poppies up to create a large poppy collage to remember the fallen. ‘ Lest We Forget ‘
This week, Mrs David lead us in our assembly focusing on Armistice Day. We remembered those who have died as a result of conflict in any part of the world and give thanks for the sacrifice made by countless others. We then gathered together at the 11th hour, on the 11th day, on the 11th month to hold a 2 minute silence. This is to show deep respect for anyone who has lost their lives during times of conflict.
Eternal Rest grant unto them our lord and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen
Today we were led in an assembly focussing on one of our Catholic Social Teaching Principles ‘Human Dignity’. God teaches us that every person has value, every person must be treated with respect, every person has an inherent dignity not because of what they achieve, not because of their status in life but simply because they are. We have been asked to show human dignity towards others this week in our actions and we will share our actions with the school next week.
November is the month of Holy Souls, we pray the Eternal Rest for family and friends who have died. We offered up prayers and placed them on our prayer table to then be taken into church.
We were led by our liturgy leads in our celebration of the word for the 29th Sunday in Ordinary time, we listened to Marks gospel and this reminded us that Jesus did not come to be served to to serve others and save the lives of many. We need to help the vulnerable and those in need just like we have with our harvest donations.
Thank you to our families and friends who donated food for the harvest, it is a time to give thanks to God for his harvest. We have thought about how we are being stewards to God’s creation through our act of kindness and helping those who are poor or vulnerable.
Today we were led by our liturgy leads in the Missio assembly, we watched a video about the Missio campaign in Cameroon in the 2024 campaign. We discussed the Catholic Social teaching in action and how we too can support this mission. We thought of what St Teresa of Calcutta said ‘Do something beautiful for God’.
We have created Somme beautiful art work Jesus’ baptism.
We led a beautiful Mass this morning for the month of the Holy Rosary as we are now in October. The rosary is a beautiful prayer that helps us to reflect on the life of Jesus and his mother Mary. During our Mass we are too saying yes to God to live our lives and put him at the heart of all we do.
Our class liturgy leads led us in our morning celebration of the word where we discussed the CST principle stewardship. Pope Francis has asked us to care for Gods creation and be good stewards to it by caring for all that God made. st Francis of Assisi looked upon Gods creation as his brothers and sisters and so should we.
Today we attended Mass to celebrate the feast of Ss Cosmas and Damian, two doctors (and martyrs) who intercede for those who are sick or dying. They became Christian and practiced medicine and surgery free of charge. Despite persecution, they stayed true to their faith and were martyred around the year 300AD. They served for the Glory of God and were servants of his great glory.
This morning we discussed the importance of serving others, just like Jesus taught us to. We know that we show our faith by loving and serving other people in simple and little ways. We reflected on the reading from Marks Gospel about when Jesus was teaching his disciples about what was going to happen to him but the disciples were argueing amongst themselves he said ‘Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last and the servant of all’. What matters is that God wants us to care and love for everyone.
This morning we thought about in our class assembly out virtues ‘Curious and Active’, and we started with our family prayer as we prepare for the Jubilee Year. We reminded ourselves about the virtues and how they help us to become the people of God that he wants us to be. We always try to be the best version of ourselves in our school and the wider community.
Look at our beautiful RE display in our class for the children to focus on during our prayers.
Today we had a whole school assembly about caring for our creation and being good stewards. God created the whole world and humans so that we could take care of his creation, to live in harmony with his creation. During this season of Creation we hope to raise awareness and inspire action to protect our common home.
We found out about our class saint The Archangel Saint Michael, who is a chief angel. He fought against Satan and evil, he rescues the souls of the faithful from the power of the devil, to be champion of God people and to summon peoples soul from his earth and bring them to judgement. We are inspired by him to look after our Church and all of Gods creation.
We begin our first week thinking about our School Mission as it s at the heart of everything we do. We discussed how as a school community we live out our mission in our words and actions.
