The Holy Rosary
Today, we led a whole school Mass recognising October as the month of the Holy Rosary. We understand that this beautiful prayer helps us to reflect on the life of Jesus and his mother Mary. Mary trusted in God and said yes to him when asked to become the mother of his son. During Mass, we prayed that we too will say yes to God in our lives and put him at the heart of all that we do.
One Life Autumn Livestream
Today, we joined all of OLOL and other schools in Birmingham Diocese to take part in One Life Music’s Autumn livestream. We learned new signs and sang hymns with Dan and Emily. It was a prayerful, reverent gathering and a lovely way to spend our Friday morning.
Go Gold for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
Lots of children in Sycamore class are wearing their golden ribbons this month to shine a light on paediatric cancer and help to raise vital funds for research. We are all showing we care and standing in solidarity with the brace children who are fighting cancer.
Classroom Blessing
This morning, Deacon Tim visited Sycamore to bless our prayer area, all the pupils and the teacher. Deacon Tim talked to us all about the coming year ahead and asked God to watch over us as we take on the new challenges that Year 4 will bring.
Pupil Prepared Prayer
This morning, O and N led us in a beautiful, prayerful liturgy. They prepared a liturgy with the theme of Creation where they asked the children to write a prayer to God thanking Him for our common home. O and N left us with a key message to take away from their prayer service: Be stewards of God’s creation and care for our beautiful world.
Creation and Covenant
Sycamore class made an excellent start to their new RE unit. We explored the story of Abram and God’s covenant to bless Abram and his family. We also researched the work of St Chad’s Sanctuary, how they enact the virtues of faith, hope and love and discussed how we could do the same in our own lives.
The Saints of Catholic Social Teaching...
To end Mission Week, we all created artwork focusing on two saints who demonstrated the CST principle of solidarity in their life and mission: St Alban and St Damian of Molokai. We talked about their lives and the great actions they took which are an example to us on our own journey of faith in Catholic Social Teaching actions.
Our Class Saints:
St Philip Neri and St John Henry Newman
We enjoyed learning all about St Philip Neri and St John Henry Newman. Reflecting on St John Henry Newman’s prayer, we thought about what our ‘definite service’ might be and what mission in life God created us for knowing that we can use our Catholic Social Teaching principles to make our acts of service gifts for the global community.
Our School Mission
We started our new year at OLOL reminding ourselves of our school Mission Statement. We created our own artistic interpretation of the key elements of the statement and explored how this mission will affect our actions and faith this year.
