OLOL follows all Diocesan and Church guidelines in planning and writing policy for the teaching of Relationships and Sex Education. The Policy (attached below) gives an overview of what we teach, why we teach it and how we teach it. We currently use the developmental programme called “A Journey in Love” by Sr Jude Groden, but teaching materials are always being evaluated and reviewed to ensure they provide the best support for pupils.
It is important that parents are open to this work and support their child when they ask tricky questions or use new scientific vocabulary to describe body parts etc. We always notify when the RSE teaching block talks place and the whole school does the work at the same time so that parents can have meaningful family discussions with all children in their house.
