Year 4

Welcome to Sycamore's Catholic Life Pages! We love our class family and so decided to create a love heart to show our love and care for each other.

This half terms virtues are 'Grateful and Generous' and we discussed what we thought about what these virtues meant and how we can show them to others.

We have read the story of the creation of human beings and created pictures of ourselves and wrote prayers saying thank you to God for creating us in his image and likeness. The finished display will be put up on our page soon...

We discussed in class what we wanted to include in our class charter. We thought about our School Mission statement and that Christ is at the centre of our school and how we want to follow in the footsteps of Jesus in all we do. We then signed our class charter with our hand print to show our commitment we have made.

We created a cross in our class as another way of leaving a space for our class to post their prayers as and when the need arises. We will choose coloured paper and write our prayer, roll it up and tie with a piece of string and post it into our cross as our prayer offering.

We remembered St.Therese of Lisieux as it was her feast day on the 1st October. We thought of what little things we could do that would make a big difference to others.

Deacon Tim blessed our classroom, prayer table and our new Bibles. Aswell as blessing us with holy water for the start of our new school year.

We are very happy with our beautiful display that the children worked so hard on! We created pictures of ourselves and wrote prayers to God thanking Him for creating us in his image and likeness.

We led a lovely assembly about Our Lady of Walsingham. She had great faith in Mary and prayed to her often. We too will be praying to Our Lady more during the month of October.

Today we made a commitment to discipleship for this year and chose a Mission that we wanted to try and fulfil. Sycamore class thought of some fantastic ideas and are committed to achieving these this year.

Sycamore class were led in a beautiful prayer service today by TM. It was prepared very well and everyone reflected on the words spoken by TM. Thank you TM.

This morning IGF led our class in a lovely prayer service about thinking about those who are hungry or refugees. She read the parable of the Good Samaritan and asked us how we could help those in need.

Here are some examples of our classes saint work for their homework challenges. I am so impressed with the many facts and information that they found out. Many of our saints start  out as ordinary people, and they faced the same challenges as everyone else around them did. But instead of staying ordinary, they pushed themselves to grow in grace and love so that they could become extraordinary individuals.

Here is our beautiful display of our cross shaped out of our classes hands that they decorated.

During the month of November we think about all of those loved ones who we have died.

Prayer service led by our Year 6 chapliancy pupils AA and KH. The theme was Holy Souls. It was a beautifully prepared service.

Sycamore class transformed into an art gallery with many different representations of the Baptism of Jesus. We worked in groups and analysed the pieces of art work. We had a fantastic time and it created lots of interesting discussions. We then presented our work to the rest of the class.

Mrs David led a beautiful assembly for Armistice Day and set us a challenge to write a letter to the Navy officers aboard the HMS Prince of Wales. We hope they will enjoy reading them.

Look at our fantastic blackout poems for Remembrance Day. Here are a few examples...

BB led us in a beautiful prayer service this morning.

Prayer service led by EW for the feast of St.Catherine Laboure. We learnt lots about her and how we too can be like her and help those who are elderly.

Prayer journals...

RB led us in a beautiful prayer service on the theme of the nativity.

CF led is in a peaceful, prayerful and reflective prayer service. We all took a moment to think about all of those who we have lost and said the Hail Holy Queen.

Sycamore class have been thinking this week about how we can show compassion and love to others as they are our virtues for this half term. Jesus said that we can show others we are his disciples by the way we love other people. We decided to send a card to someone who needed cheering up to let them know that we are thinking about them. Mrs Larkin was very overwhelmed by the beautiful cards and messages the children have created.

Here they all are ready to be given out...

AMG led us in a beautiful prayer service about homeless people. Thank you so much for making us think of others and how we should look after all of God ‘s people.

Today we thought about the presentation of the Lord. We interpreted a picture and wrote our ideas in our prayer journals.

We thought about how we could be a light to others. How will you be a light like Jesus?

Today we designed an Easter garden to give ideas for the mini vinnies for when they make the gardens to be placed on the sanctuary by the cross on Easter Sunday. I’m sure some of our class will make their own Easter gardens too.
