Year 2 2018/2019

The Mass

We have enjoyed using the Mass Kits in our own prayer services & role play.

Celebrating the Feast of the Sacred Heart

After learning about the symbols of the Sacred Heart, we went & prayed in the Sacred Heart Chapel.

Our Church

We learned about Saint Peter and Saint Paul.

PT planned & led a beautiful prayer service all about St. Peter & St. Paul.

Our prayer service today. Thank you C for preparing such a lovely prayer, thanking God for keeping us safe, with a beautiful drawing of the Holy Spirit.

Vocations Day. We learned about what a vocation is, and we had a lovely visit from Mrs Styles who talked about her role as a paediatric nurse. We also talked about our own talents that God has given us.

Pentecost

We listened to the story of Pentecost and imagined how the disciples felt.

We learned about the Sacrament of Confirmation and receiving the Holy Spirit.

We acted out Jesus’s appearance to two disciples on the road to Emmaus. We talked about what this story teaches us about faith and kindness.

Doubting Thomas

We listened to the story of Doubting Thomas & then acted the out. We discussed why Thomas found it hard to believe that Jesus was alive. 

May is the Month of Mary

JS led a prayer service about Our Lady, the Mother of Jesus.

Signs and Symbols of Easter

We went to visit church to look for signs and symbols of Easter. We identified the Paschal Candle, wooden cross, white cloth and water and talked about their meaning.

Old Testament Stories and Prayers

In this unit we learn about key figures from the Old Testament in the Bible and how they behaved when God asked them to do something.

We read the story of Noah's Ark and thought about the question: Why did Noah do as God asked?

October

Mrs Antony told us about the Rosary in assembly.

Mrs Kemp and some Year 2 children made this fantastic Rosary.

Deacon Tim blessed our classroom.

We sang Father Sean a song and made him a card.

November - All Souls and Remembrance

EH led a prayer service on the theme of Do not be Afraid

MO led our prayer service on the theme of Faith.

PT led our prayer service on the theme of God's Light.

We wore red and remembered persecuted Christians on Wednesday.

December

Advent - a time for preparing ourselves for Jesus's coming.

We performed our Advent assembly to the whole school and our parents.

AH led a prayer service on the theme of Jesus loves Me!

We have been learning about God in our community.

Christmas Unit

AC led an insightful prayer service all about loving and obeying your parents.

GM led a prayer service on Living as God Wanted.

Parables and Miracles

In this unit we looked at the way Jesus changed people's lives in the miracles he performed. We looked at The wedding Feast at Cana, The Feeding of the Five Thousand and Jairus' Daughter.

 

We explored the following parables; The Parable of the Talents, The Parable of the Sower and The Parable of the Prodigal Son.

Saint David's Mass

Year 2 led the Mass on Saint David's Day.

Lent

We received ashes at Mass to begin Lent.
