On the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus the whole school did focus lessons to help deepen their understanding of this special form of devotion to Jesus.
First Holy Communion Retreat
Columban Fathers – June 2017
The children and staff (and Mrs David) from Year 3 visited the house of the Columban Fathers in Solihull to spend a day reflecting on the gift of the Eucharist and to think about the importance of continuing to share in the Mass as we get older. During the day we were able to complete fun activities that made us think about ourselves and others. We started the day with a special celebration of Mass with Father Sean.
Corpus Christi 2017
Whole School Lessons
To celebrate the liturgical feast of Corpus Christi (the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ) every class in school had focus lessons. We thought about the gift of the Eucharist and what it means to receive the Sacrament…

Thanksgiving Mass 2017
Solemnity of Corpus Christi
Today the children of Year 3 and children of the Parish that made their First Holy Communion in May come together to celebrate as a whole class group, to give thanks for the special gift that has been given to them. What better day to celebrate receiving this Sacrament than Corpus Christi – the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. The children took part in Mass and after photographs as a whole group they enjoyed a Communion Breakfast in the School Hall.
Whole School Lessons
To celebrate the liturgical season of Pentecost every class in school had focus lessons on Pentecost and a whole school celebration assembly. Inspired by the Holy Spirit children reflected on what Pentecost meant for them…
Mary, Queen of May
Our Marian Procession May 2017
This year we reintroduced the traditional May Procession as a mark of devotion to Our Lady. We processed around the Church grounds to our special grotto to Our Lady that commemorates the appearances to St Bernadette in Lourdes. The children sang hymns to Our Lady and recited the Rosary while contemplating the Glorious mysteries.
On the beautiful summers day we were joined by parents and parishioners as well as school governors and the children gave their gifts of flowers to Our Lady. The Year 3 children also celebrated receiving the Sacrament at school Mass today for the first time since making their First Holy Communion. The boys wore their sashes and supported Year 6 to lead the procession.
First Holy Communion
May 14th and 21st 2017
The children of Year 3 and 2 members of the Parish celebrated their First Holy Communion during two special Masses this month. Following their preparation at school and home the class were very excited to receive the body and blood of Christ for the first time. We would like to thank the families of Year 3 for their hard work and commitment in preparing their children and ensuring that their faith life is well lived at home. Thank you to Mrs Creegan, Mrs Anthony and Mr Woollard for preparing the children in school and to all staff that attended preparation masses to show their support.

St George’s Day Cream Tea
In keeping with our tradition of celebrating the UK Patron Saints with cream tea, it was the turn of St George. Parishioners were invited to join us after Mass and indulge in a quintessentially English treat for the Saint of England!
Children created Lenten Gardens to reflect the events of Easter and displayed them in Church…
CAFOD – Big Fish Campaign
During Lent the children and teachers took part in the Big Fish campaign to support CAFOD in helping everyone understand the impact that poverty has and the ways to help break the cycle of poverty for our global s friends and neighbours. The money raised for CAFOD will support communities around the world to learn skills to earn enough money for basic needs like food, clothing and shelter – the things we sometimes take for granted. As always OLOL children made a great effort in their fundraising and participation in activities.
We also collected children’s clothing to donate to St Chad’s Sanctuary near the Cathedral to be given to refugees in Birmingham who have arrived with nothing…
"To live charitably means not looking out for our own
interests, but carrying the burdens of the weakest
and poorest among us."
Christmas Carol Service
The children and staff prepared a wonderful Carol Service and Tableau of the Christmas story which took place in OLOL Church and was attended by many parents and parishioners…

Sacrament of Confirmation
Our Year 6 class received the gifts of the Holy Spirit through Confirmation in December 2016. It was a wonderfully joyous community occasion where the “joy of the Holy Spirit” was truly evident. It was made even more special by the contribution of the children in Year 6 who were not making their Confirmation but who felt they needed to be with their friends to share in their night.

50th Anniversary of our Parish
Deanery Visit – November 2016
October and November 2016 were really busy months for the Parish and school of OLOL as we celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the institution of our current church building. A celebration Mass was held and many priests from the Diocese joined us. It was a time of sadness for our community as our dearly loved Canon Riley passed away and the children and staff all attended his funeral – a true celebration of his life with God. Archbishop Bernard joined us for these two emotional Masses. We embarked on a Parish Mission with a really special Family Mass, led by the Redemptorist Priests. In addition, Bishop Byrne came to spend some time at OLOL as part of his Deanery Visit – he met with Mrs David, Mr Doyle and Mrs Anthony as well as a large group of key Parishioners and Father Sean to talk about the developments within the Church…have a look at some photos from these events…
Macmillan Coffee Morning September 2016
Acts of Charity
Parents and children from OLOL are very invested in raising money for good causes and supporting those in need in our community and the global perspective. Parents, parishioners and children made cakes to be sold or raffled to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Care and we raised £1000. A great achievement!
Ordination of Deacon Tim
It was a very special day for Deacon Tim and his family (including Mrs Anthony and Louise!) when he was ordained to the Diaconate at St Chad’s Cathedral. Deacon Tim will be based in OLOL Parish and will support Father Sean in his work. He popped into school to talk to children about his new role and received some cards that the children had made…
Year 4 Retreat – SMILE Day
Dan Callow/One Life Music June 2016
We were really happy to welcome Dan back to spend the day with us as we reflected on what it means to be happy…
St Patrick’s Day
OLOL turned many shades of green to celebrate the life and work of St Patrick – with so many of our families, staff and parish of Irish descent we made quite a day of it with music, dance, food after Mass and curriculum activities to consider the importance of missionaries in the development of our faith…
